Thiruananthpuram: Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the gangrape of a 19 year old nursing student in Kerala's Varkala,
The victim was sexually assaulted in in an autorickshaw in Kerala's Varkala, near capital Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
The accused are the victims’s lover and first accused in the case, Safeer, alias Dawood, second accused, autorickshaw driver Shaiju, and Safeer’s accomplice Rasheed.
The teenager, a second year BSC nursing student, had told the police that she was assaulted by her friend Shyju, 24, and 25-year-old Sujith, in the former's autorickshaw.
The girl was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital and her condition is being monitored by a team of doctors
"Based on the statement of the girl, we registered case against three persons. A medical examination has confirmed that she was gangraped," Varkala Circle Inspector Vinod B said.
Only a couple of days after the brutal rape and murder of a law student in Perumbavoor, Kerala, a 20-year-old nursing student was allegedly raped by three people in an autorickshaw in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram.
The police in Varkala has registered a case against the three accused based on the survivor’s account.
On 3 May, the girl bunked classes and went to Kollam with the autorickshaw driver whom she knew.
While returning home, two friends of the auto driver entered the auto. They drove the auto to a deserted area near Ayanthi bridge in Varkala where they raped her.
The girl suffered from fits and was found in a state of shock by people who rushed to the vehicle on hearing her cries for help.
She was admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

The incident comes days after a 30-year-old Dalit law student was found brutally raped and murdered in her home in Ernakulam, Kerala.
