Beijing, Mar 1: CCTV footage has been released showing the moment a police officer saved the life of a young mother and her baby as she tried to jumping off a bridge. Officer Qiao Jinhai was called to the scene by Beijing commuters who saw the woman climbing over the barrier on the Guanghua bridge earlier this month.
In the grainy footage, Officer Jinhai can be seen passing the woman who is holding a child, then slowly approaching her.
Distraught: Beijing commuters spotted the woman climbing over the barrier on the Guanghua bridge while clinging onto her baby.
Precarious: As she climbs further over the barrier onto another ledge, she knocks her bag with her foot, which is sent flying off the edge.
Quick-thinking: Officer Jinhai is seen running up to the distressed woman and grabbing her as she moves further away.
Desperate: The woman refuses to let go of the nearby concrete flowerbed and Officer Qiao Jinha tries to prise her fingers away
But as the woman attempts to climb out on to a ledge on the bridge, the policeman rushes in and pulls her back towards the road.
Passers-by scramble to help the policeman and some try to unclasp her hands from the bar she is clinging onto while others attempt to move her feet.
A woman nearby takes the child from her arms and they are both pulled to safety.
The woman is led away from the edge, although she still looks distraught and gestures animatedly.
She even makes a move towards the edge of the bridge again, although this time she is pulled back immediately by the police man.
After being rescued the woman and her child were taken to the local police station for questioning.
According to police, problems at home had caused the woman to try and take her and her child's life.
