Its World Heritage Day today and one of the best day to promote and spread awareness regarding the cultural heritage of India. UNESCO too through its Unite 4 heritage programme has started the initiative to promote the international monuments and sites today. 

The day April 18 was announced as World Heritage Day in the year 1982 by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), which is based in France.

However, this decision got approval by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983. World Heritage Day was announced to protect and conserve the cultural heritage world.

There are more than 30 cultural heritage sites in India. Here is a list of most sought-after heritage sites of India.
