Diwali has begun with Dhanteras which is celebrated on the thirteenth day of Kartik month as per Hindu calendar. On this auspicious day, people buy utensils, gold, silver, precious jewellery, etc. It is believed that purchasing a commodity on Dhanteras influences financial strength of a person. This year, muhurat for shopping is between 9:14 am and 1:32 pm and the second muhurat is between 7:23 pm to 3:14 am

During festival, especially Diwali and Eid, the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk offer wide range of food items, clothes, jewelleries and decorative items. The market is closed on Sunday.

Dilli Haat: Unlike other markets, Dilli Haat is a paradise for those who love handicraft goodies. It offers ample of traditional items from various regions of India. The craft bazaar has some products which you won't get in any other markets of Delhi such as camel hide footwear, rosewood and sadalwood carvings, etc. You can buy unique decorative items from Dilli Haat, however, they are bit high priced.

Dariba Kalan: This is a hub for all shoppers during Dhanteras and Diwali. This largest jewellery market of Asia receives huge footfall during the festival of light. Jewelleries made here are of silver, gold, kundan, diamons and are incredible in designs. It is close to Paranthewali Gali and Old Famous Jalebi Wala of Chandni Chowk, so you just have to eat and shop. It remains shut on Sunday.

Tibetan Market: Tibetan market on Japath Road is lit with earthern diyas, gorgeous light and pretty lamps during Diwali. You can also shop some  stunning earrings, neck pieces, bracelets, anklets from this place. It is famous for bohemian attires, jute bags, handicraft items and diyas. This market remains closed on Sunday.
