The 89th Academy Awards that honoured movies and hard work by the artists took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles yesterday. ‘La La Land’ once again created magic and won six awards whereas it faced the competition from 'Moonlight' which bagged three trophies.

‘La La Land’ received 14 nominations out of which it won six trophies. Emma Stone won Best Actor (Female) Leading Role, Damien Chazelle wins Best Director, the film also emerged as a winner in Best Original Song, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score categories.

The musical film lost the Best Picture Award to 'Moonlight'. Initially, the former’s name was announced as the winner but soon it was informed that it was a mistake. The Best Short Film- Animated Award was given to ‘Piper’.

Casey Affleck won the award for the Best Actor for ‘Manchester by the Sea’.

Mahershala Ali also held the trophy for best Supporting actor for ‘Moonlight’ defeating Dev Patel who was nominated for ‘lion’. He became the first Muslim actor to bag an Oscar award.

“Zootopia” was announced the Best Animated Feature Film and “The Jungle Book” won an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category. “Suicide Squad” won the Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Veteran Bollywood actor Om Puri who has worked in several Hollywood movies was also honoured at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony.

The ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel who didn’t space US President Donald trump and was consistently taking jibe at him. In fact, many celebrities protested travel ban imposed by the president by wearing blue ribbons.

Celebrities put their stylish foot forward when they appeared on the red carpet. International star Jackie Chan walked the red carpet with two stuffed pandas. Dev Patel was escorted by his mother Anita Patel and Priyanka Chopra mesmerised everyone in Ralph & Russo gown.
