New Delhi: The chote Nawab of Bollywood, Saif Ali Khan is celebrating his 46th birthday today.

Saif who made his debut with Parampara in 1992, initially had relatively low success rate and could not manage to establish himself as an actor, giving just a couple of hits early on in his career in 90s.

It was Hum Saath Saath Hain that changed Saif's filmy career. Due to Hum Saath Saath Hai, he went on to grab many good films.

With his fate taking it's due course, the actor tasted success with Farhan Akhtar's debut directorial ‘Dil Chahta Hai'. After its release in 2001, there was no looking back for Saif Ali Khan.

Soon after ‘Dil Chahta Hai', Saif went on to give another successful performance in ‘Hum Tum' opposite Rani Mukerji. Saif even won a National Award for the role he played in this movie. The actor was last seen in Kabir Khan's 'Phantom' which did an average business at the box office.

On the ocassion of his 46th birthday we bring to you his top most appreciated performances so far.

Sameer in Dil Chahta Hai: Saif Ali Khan found the much needed success with Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hain 2001. Dil Chahta Hai was about three friends played by Aamir Khan, Akshay Khanna and Saif Ali Khan. Saif played the character of Sameer, a guy who has no idea about life and falls in love with every girl that catches his sight.

The actor looked comfortable with comic dialogues and earned praises for his performance. The actor was nominated for Filmfare Best Comedian Award for his role.

 

 

Karan Kapoor in Hum Tum: Saif Ali Khan further added feathers to his hat as an actor in Hum Tum with Rani Mukerji paired opposite him. Released in 2004 the movie was about a Cartoonist Karan Kapoor played by Saif who is fun-loving and feels proud to be a ladies charmer.

Saif once again was lauded for his performance and won National Film Award for Best Actor in 2005 besides winning Filmfare for Best Performance in a Comic Role.

 

 

Shekhar Rai in Parineeta: Released in 2005 Parineeta saw Saif in a serious role of Shekhar Rai, a passionate lover. The movie also had debutant Vidya Balan and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles.

 Saif Ali Khan with time polished his acting skills and that was visible in this movie, regarded as one of his heavyweight performances.

 

 

Ishwar "Langda" Tyagi in Omkara: This Vishal Bhardwaj film was released in 2006 and was based on Shakespeare's 'Othello'.

Playing Langda Tyagi was perhaps the welcome thing for Saif who portrayed the role outstandingly and won Filmfare award for Best Villain.

 

 

Jai Vardhan Singh in Love Aaj Kal: Saif Ali Khan not only was in the lead role, but also produced Love Aaj Kal, a romantic comedy in 2009. Saif was seen playing two roles and did well in both the roles, he played modern lover Jai Vardhan Singh and the younger version of yesteryear's lover Veer Singh (Rishi Kapoor).

 It was first production venture by Saif and the film smashed a huge success on box office.
