The special dinner organised at Prime minister Manmohan Singh's Delhi residence to welcome US President Barack Obama, had the crème de la crème of India.

Amongst the dignitaries present like Azim Premji, Narayana Murthy, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Javed Akhtar, Kapil Sibal, Vishwanathan Anand and P Chidambram, was Aamir Khan. Unfortunately, Aamir's wife Kiran Rao could not make it to this dinner, as she was unwell. Nevertheless, the dinner proved to be more than a fruitful rendezvous for Aamir.

During his long interaction with President Obama, Aamir was thrilled to learn that Obama was well aware of his work. And that's not all, the US President also extended a special invitation to Aamir to come to the US and promote his films, reports Mumbai Mirror.

At the gathering, when President Obama met Aamir, after talking about his films and telling him to promote them in the US, he also asked Aamir about his wife Kiran. On learning that she was unwell, Obama told Aamir to wish her a speedy recovery.

Incidentally, Michelle Obama was more familiar with Aamir's film and had told her husband about them. The confidence, with which Michelle Obama spoke about Aamir's films, was a very pleasant surprise for the actor. The US First Lady promptly told her husband that she even danced to a song from one of Aamir's films recently at The Holy Name School in Colaba.

When contacted, Aamir said, “It was a real honour to be part of such a distinguished gathering. It was a very dignified and tasteful affair. I was seated on the same table as Vishwanathan Anand, who I am a big fan of. Mr Obama sent his regards to Kiran and said, ‘Tell her we missed her'. And Michelle Obama told me that she really enjoyed dancing to my song from Rang De Basanti.”
