Khandwa (MP): Noted Bollywood lyricist Sameer was on Monday awarded Kishore Kumar Samman for the year 2013-14 by the Madhya Pradesh government.
Madhya Pradesh Food Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, Culture Minister Surendra Patwa and Mayor of Khandwa Ms Bhavna Shah conferred the award to Sameer. He was given a cheque of Rs 2 lakh along with a citation plaque.
Playback singer Usha Mangeshkar sang songs in memory of Kishore Kumar, whose death anniversary falls on October 13.
Accepting the honour, Sameer said, singers like Kishore Kumar are born once in centuries and his versatility was matchless.
Culture Minister Surendra Patwa said, the state government would take steps to conserve the heritage of Kishore Kumar's home in Khandwa, and would speak to his relatives.
