Mumbai, Sep 22 :  South actor J D Chakravarthy best remembered for his role in Ramgopal Varma's ‘Satya', is all set to wield the megaphone as a director with a Hindi horror film in 3D.

JD had managed to grab eyeballs B-town with his powerful performance in 1998 hit, in which he played the role of an underworld don called Satya. Later he did two-three Hindi films (all with RGV) but none of it could reach the popularity and fame that was brought by ‘Satya'.

Now he is back in Bollywood yet again with Varma's horror film ‘Bhoot Returns'.  But the popular South actor is now keen on directing a film in this genre himself.

“I have plans (of directing a Hindi film). I had done one story in ‘Darna Zaroori Hai' of Randeep Hooda. There are things in the pipeline. But presently, I am focusing on ‘Bhoot Returns' I am involved in post production work. I have a plan of making a 3D film in Bollywood,” Chakravarthy told PTI in an interview.

“I am toying on an idea for the horror film for which I am quite excited. But its too early to think about it,” he said.

“The whole idea of making a 3D film in horror space is because it scares everyone. Like in a romantic film if some object is protruding I don't think it gives you a high, except in a horror or thriller film. I think the medium of 3D will be more effective in horror and thriller space,” Chakravarthy said.

It was during the making of Varma's upcoming horror film that prompted Chakravarthy made up his mind to use the 3D medium.

“Ramuji is an outstanding technician, if you give him a horror film like ‘Bhoot Returns' he has excels in that and if given an extra tool like 3D he would use it to the maximum.  He has done the optimum usage of 3D in ‘Bhoot Returns'.. he has captured the film very well,” Chakravarthy said.

“Till the time I was working in ‘Bhoot Returns' I was always excited to make a horror film but not in 3D. But what prompted me is the way Ramuji made optimum usage of 3D in this film and the best way to utilising this medium. It made me think that I should make a film in 3D here,” he said.

Chakravarthy feels for a film of a horror genre the
primary focus should be on how to scare the audience.

“The horror film should not have much of a story idea as the intent is to scare the audience. If we start having lots of story in the film then it is a bad news. Horror film is to scare the audience. But this does not mean the story has to be weak... the content should be strong the extra material that comes with it will obviously be interesting,” he said.

If all goes well, then the ‘Satya' actor will start working on his Hindi horror film post the release of ‘Bhoot Returns'.

“I am working on the story, I think once ‘Bhoot
Returns' is done I will start working on it. Presently I am pre-occupied with the post production, publicity angle of the film. Once I am done with this I will hopefully start working on it this year,” he said.

‘Bhoot Returns', a sequel to the 2003 hit film ‘Bhoot' which starred Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles.  The sequel marks the comeback of actress Manisha Koirala along with her co-star JD Chakravarthy.

The film will be released in theatres on October 12.
