New Delhi: Bollywood actresses are seen quite concerned about their beauty factor and prefer doing roles which makes them look younger.

No wonder why Madhuri Dixit, Tabu and Raveena Tandon rejected to do Zoya Akhtar's ‘Dil Dhadakne Do' where they were supposed to play the mother of Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh.

But this quest of looking forever young isn't a new trend. This was a rage in 90's as well.

Even then also the actress used to avoid playing mothers to younger actresses on screen.

However, veteran actress Dimple Kapadia had to pay a heft price for this quest.

Dimple was barred for a couple of months by the film association as she has refused to play the mother of Juhi Chawla in ‘Kartavya'.

Actually, Dimple was doing lead and second lead roles at that time. However, it was Hema Malini who approached Dimple first to play the on-screen mother to Divya Bharti in ‘Dil Aashna Hai'.

While Dimple was quite apprehensive about her role, she agreed because of her friendship with Hema. Moreover, Amrita Singh and Sonu Walia, who are younger to Dimple, were playing the similar role in the movie.

Soon, Dimple bonded so well with Divya that she wished to work her again. Soon, Divya, who was signed by director Raj Kanwar for ‘Kartavya, and the actress recommended Dimple for the role of her mother-in-law in the movie. And Dimple, too was roped in for the movie.

However, the movie had to stop in between following Divya Bharti's mysterious death after which the makers decided to re-shoot the entire movie with Juhi Chawla as the new lead.

While, Juhi was signed, Raj approached Dimple for her new dates. It was then that Dimple refused to give any of her dates and wanted to walk out of the film.

As the makers had already incurred heavy loss because of Divya's death, they tried their level best to convince Dimple to complete the film.

But Dimple Kapadia was adamant about not playing mother-in-law to Juhi Chawla. Raj Kanwar even approached the film association to intervene, but in vain. With all their pleads felling on the deaf ears, the film-makers finally parted ways with Dimple Kapadia and roped in Aruna Irani for the role.

However, Dimple had to pay a huge price for her negligence and attitude towards the film-makers.

The association barred Dimple to sign any new film for few months as a punishment. The punishment was negligible for Dimple as she was happy to exit the film where she had to play mother-in-law to Juhi Chwala, who was playing lead roles opposite many of her contemporary heroes and is younger to her by merely ten years.

Finally, ‘Kartavya' was released after a gap of four years, although it failed to survive at the box-office.

Interestingly, ‘Kartavya' released in 1995 and in the same year Dimple's daughter Twinkle Khanna made her debut in B-town with ‘Barsaat' opposite Bobby Deol.

After the whole episode, Dimple and Juhi never worked together until ‘Luck By Chance' happened in 2009 in which the divas shared the screen space for the first time.
