"Mere paas maa hai," the film that made this dialogue famous - Deewar has completed 40 years today. Legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra's film that was released in 1975 created ripples in the media with its intriguing story of two brothers.

Deewaar which revolved around two impoverished brothers who struggle to survive on the streets of Mumbai won six Filmfare Awards and was declared as hit at the box office, becoming the fourth highest grosser of the year 1975.

On the completion of Deewar's glorious 40 years we take a look at some fun facts that will blow your mind!

Deewar

Rajesh Khanna was the first choice for the role of Vijay Verma (Amitabh Bachchan) and Navin Nischol for the role of Ravi Verma (Shashi Kapoor). But Rajesh Khanna didn't get the role because Salim-Javed over a tiff with Khanna was adamant on being the role given to Amitabh Bachchan. And Navin Nischol declined the role when he learnt Rajesh Khanna was not doing Vijay Verma's role.

Al though Shashi Kapoor was the hero of the film, but supporting actor Amitabh Bachchan stole the limelight and got much more appreciation for his role which was inspired by Mumbai smuggler Haji Mastan.

Neerupa Roy - Bollywood's most loved mother who made the role of Sumitra Devi a hit wasn't the first choice for the role. Initially Waheeda Rehman was almost offered the role, but then Yash Chopra had already cast her in Kabhie Kabhie (1976) as Amitabh Bachchan's wife. So her option was ruled out, then Vyjayanthimala was approached who turned down the role and it finally went to Nirupa Roy.

Deewar- still

Deewar, which ran for over 100 weeks was one of the only 13 films that grossed over 1 crore rupees in every territory across India between 1970s-1980s.
Classified asn 'all time earner' the movie was among the top 10 money minting machines of the industry in those days.

The popular death scene of the film, that we still remember wasn't apparently scripted as the dialogues were never written for the scene. The director Yash Chopra reportedly gave Amitabh full freedom and he spoke whatever came to his mind.

The half-tucked shirt style that we still follow wasn't a deliberate move by Amitabh Bachchan. In fact he tucked in half of his shirt because it was too long.

Salim-Javed had become so popular after this movie that they started demanding Rs 8 for per movie. This sum was unheard of in Bollywood then.

Neetu Singh who played the role of Shashi Kapoor's love interest in the film is actually his nephew Rishi Kapoor's wife in real life.
