Mumbai: Bollywood celebrities welcomed the Supreme Court judgement on giving green signal to women make-up artist to work in Bollywood.
The Supreme Court today put an end to a 59-year old practice in Bollywood that puts restrictions on them from pursuing the profession in the film industry, saying such shocking discrimination on the basis of gender is violative of constitutional values.
Director-producer Farhan Akhtar tweeted, “The Supreme Court ruling on ending the bias against women becoming members of the Cine Make-up Artist Association is most welcome.”
Voicing the same opinion, Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, “Welcome judgement by Hon Supreme Court allowing women make-up artistes in film fraternity. The discrimination was unhealthy and uncalled for.
“Great judgement by the honourable supreme court to allow female make up artists to work in bollywood. Some progress towards gender equality!,” Aftab Shivdasani posted.
Filmmaker Nikhil Advani wrote, “SC puts an end to an archaic law banning women make up artists from working in the film industry. What we ever thinking?”
The apex court passed the order on a PIL filed by one Charu Khurana and other women make-up artists who alleged that female artists are not allowed to be a member of the association and one cannot work in the industry without being registered with the association.
