He has lent his voice to charttopping numbers and toured the country with his band, but Farhan Akhtar who returns to his day job as a director with the much awaited 'Don 2' says that his days behind the mic are over.

The 'Dil Chahta Hai' director had proved his mettle as an actor and a singer with "Rock On", which won him a Filmfare for Best Debutante, but says that he has no aspirations to make a career out of his pipes.

"I sang in 'Rock On' because the role required me to do so, that does not mean that I wil sing for every film of mine. I have no ambition to become a playback singer," said Farhan who was in Delhi  to promote his latest film, the romantic thriller 'Karthik Calling Karthik' where he is paired opposite Deepika Padukone.  

The 36-year-old who will return to direction after a gap of four years with the sequel to his superhit 2006 film 'Don' and says that he loves directing too much to stay away from it long.  

"I love directing and I am excited that 'Don 2' is coming up really well I am looking forward to when the shoot begins. It is expected to begin on October 1," Akhtar told PTI.  

The film, which reunites the original cast of the film, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani and Akhtar's 'Rock On' co-star Arjun Rampal.

As of now Akhtar is busy promoting 'Karthik Calling Karthik, where he plays a shy introverted guy, in stark contrast to his previous roles as a rock star and a struggling actor ready to put everything on line for the sake of success.

"I play a guy with a very low opinion of himself and his lack of confidence in himself, reflects in other's attitude towards him. But one day he receives a telephone call and his life changes," said Farhan about his role in the film which releases on Feb 26 along with Amitabh Bachchan's 'Teen Patti'.

The film produced by Ritesh Sidwani and directed by Vijay Lalwani will release across the globe on 500 screens. PTI
