Actor Shahid Kapoor recently got candid over his struggling days and went on to make a confession that he was rejected for around 100 movies before his debut. The ‘Udta Punjab’ actor confessed that success didn’t come easy to him and his journey in Bollywood wasn’t a cake walk.

In fact, the celebrity kid tag too didn’t work him.

“Everyone thinks that he is Pankaj Kapur’s son, so isko toh break mil gaya hoga (He must have got a break). But I have been rejected from 100 auditions. Sometimes, I didn’t have money to eat food or to even go to the auditions. I have lived that life, and I don’t like talking about it. But that is my reality,” Shahid told a leading daily.

The actor even mentioned that despite the fact that both his parents belonged to the film fraternity, he had no clue which way to go for.

“My parents were actors, but they were not stars. So, they didn’t have any pull. Mujhe samajh mein nahi aata tha ki kisse milun, kya bolun ya kya karun,” Shahid added.

However, the actor continued to follow his heart with dedication which did wonder for him. Soon he got his big break with 2003 release ‘Ishq Vishq’ which did a good business at the box office, making Shahid an overnight star.

Shahid admitted that after the success of ‘Ishq Vishq’ he felt like, “meri lottery lag gayi hai”.

“I felt that an opportunity has come from nowhere, and God has given me something I never thought I’ll be able to achieve,” he added.

Shahid has completed 13 years in the industry now and successfully created a niche for himself.

“Now when I look back, I feel like God has blessed me with this career, and I cannot let this opportunity go to waste. I don’t want to feel satisfied easily (laughs). It has been a 13-year-long wait to reach here. So, it will maybe take 13 years for me to feel relaxed,” he says.

The actor says that he is keen to take up different kinds of roles like Tommy Singh from ‘Udta Punjab’ that challenge the actor within him.

“I feel proud as playing Tommy Singh was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. My instincts, as an actor, are driving my choices. I jump at anything that allows me to do something different. I am not thinking about too many other things,” says Shahid.

Currently, Shahid Kapoor is spending quality time with wife Mira Rajput who is in the last trimester of her pregnancy. The couple will be welcoming their first child in Septemeber.

On the work front, Shahid is said to be roped in for ace film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmawati’ also starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. However, no official confirmation has been made in this regard so far.
