Actor Riteish Deshmukh’s recent release ‘Banjo’ has started of on very slow note. The movie is struggling hard to survive at the box office and has managed to earn just Rs. 5.92 crores in its opening weekend.

‘Banjo’ was released a week after Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Pink’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee Pannu.

But looks like ‘Pink’ has overshadowed the Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Banjo’. The Amitabh Bachchan starrer is going strong despite being in its second week. ‘Pink’ crossed Rs 50 crores mark in two week of release and is still unstoppable, following word to mouth publicity.

The Ravi Jadhav directorial, ‘Banjo’ witnessed a low start even on the day of its release and minted merely Rs 1.72 crores on first day.

‘Banjo’ was steady in collections on the second day as well, however, it witnessed a little hike on Sunday.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took is to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the first weekend box office collections of the movie.

The team of ‘Banjo’ had high hopes for the movie as it featured actress Nargis Fakhri in the lead and the music was given by ace music composer duo Vishal-Shekhar. In fact, it was the second time Nargis was sharing the screen space with Riteish Deshmukh. The two were last seen together this year in ‘Housefull 3’, which turned out to be a hit at the box office.

‘Banjo, on the other hand, was also being compared to Ranbir Kapoor’s 2011 release ‘Rockstar’, which marked the debut of Nargis in Bollywood. ‘Rockstar’ was not just acclaimed critically, but also won several accolades that year.

However, contradictory to everyone’s expectations, ‘Banjo’ failed to stoke the right chord with the audience.
