New Delhi: The Mumbai police today booked cricketer-turned-producer Rahul Raj Singh on charges of abetment to suicide and three other charges in the death of TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee of Balika Vadhu fame. Rahul and Pratyusha were a live-in couple and stayed together in an apartment in Goregaon, police said.

The development comes after the police recorded fresh statements from Pratyusha’s mother Soma against Rahul, following which an FIR was registered. In her statement to the police, Pratyusha’s mother has referred to the regular fights between the two.

“I used to live with Pratyusha at her Kandivli flat. When (she and Rahul) would have fights, they would live separately. I counselled them to not fight so much and concentrate on their careers,”

she told Mumbai police.

Four days ago, Pratyusha was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her residence. Her untimely demise, brought the industry to a standstill and her boyfriend Rahul under scanner.

On Tuesday, the Mumbai police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rahul. The case has been registered at the Bangur Nagar police station under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The police have also recovered an affidavit from Pratyusha’s residence. Made on a stamp paper of Rs 100, the affidavit is dated to the year 2013. On the paper is written,

“I want baby from you, Rahul.”

The police will question Rahul on the basis of this too.

Rahul, who is said to be in trauma post the entire incident, was admitted at the Shree Sai Hospital in Kandivli on Sunday morning. He had complained of heavy chest pains. Though he has been shifted to the general ward, his lawyer Neeraj Gupta has said that Rahul is still in trauma.

Ten friends of Pratyusha have offered to reveal details about her life which might help the police's investigation. Mumbai lawyer Falguni Brahmbhatt told news agency IANS,

"I have submitted a list of 10 people to the Bangur Nagar Police Station today (Monday) and they are likely to be called for giving their versions tomorrow (Tuesday)."

The identities of the people on this list have not been disclosed.
