Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati that has been courting controversies is reported to be postponed. Several fringes including Rajput Karni Sena are protesting against the film and Sanjay Leela Bhansali for allegedly 'distorting' historical facts. The latest reports are saying that makers are being pressured to postpone the release of film, citing political reasons. According to the reports, the makers have been intimated to delay the release because of forthcoming assembly elections in December. However, no official news has been sent out by the makers and India TV could not verify the reports independently.

Padmavati has been embroiled in controversies and backlashes from various religious fringes in the country. On Wednesday, actress Deepika Padukone received death threats from Rajput group Karni Sena triggering sharp reactions from several quarters. She has been provided with special security by Mumbai Police after the threats.
