Director Karan Anshuman says it was a "conscious" decision to direct web series Inside Edge as the format gave him the freedom to chalk out a good plot and characters, without any restrictions from the CBFC. Karan, who made his directorial debut with Riteish Deshmukh starrer Bangistan in 2015, is excited to present his work on the web medium. "After working on a feature film, it was a conscious decision to direct a web series as this format gave me lot of freedom, there was lot of liberty to write the plot, characters etc," Karan told PTI.

"Also, there would be no objection from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The thrill to tell the story through digital format is exciting," he says. The web series revolves around a T20 cricket franchise Mumbai Mavericks, playing in the Powerplay League, and also focuses on the game of betting.

"I love watching and playing cricket. It is close to my heart. I had the story for the longest time in the back ofmind and I was waiting for everything to fall in place. The scale was so big," Karan says.

Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment, "Inside Edge" boasts a powerful star cast Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, Sanjay Suri, Angad Bedi, Tanuj Virwani , Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Sarah Jane Dias, Amit Sial, Sayani Gupta and others.

There were reports that Vivek's character is modelled on Lalit Modi, tainted ex-chief of Indian Premier League cricket tournament, while Richa's role is said to be based on Priety Zinta, who owns a IPL team.

When asked about it, Karan says, "Vivek's character has nothing to do with Lalit Modi. As far as Richa's character is concerned, the similarity ends at the fact that she is playing the role of an actress, who owns a cricket team, that's it." The show goes live on digital service Amazon Prime Video on July 10.
