‘Shivaay’ becomes 2016’s seventh and Ajay’s sixth entry to Rs 100 cr club

Actor Ajay Devgn’s last offering ‘Shivaay’ has entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club of Bollywood movies. Media reports suggest that the highly talked about movie has minted Rs 100.05 crore at the box office since its release on 28th October.

‘Shivaay’ marks Ajay’s sixth entry to the club, the other five being Singham Returns (Rs 140 crore), Golmaal 3 (Rs 108 crore), Bol Bachchan (Rs 103 crore), Son of Sardaar (Rs. 102 crore) and Singham (Rs. 100 crore).

It is also the seventh entry to the coveted club this year after ‘Airlift’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Rustom’, ‘Housefull 3’, ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’.

‘Shivaay’ was made on a budget of Rs 105 crore. The movie had fetched Rs 60 crore in total by selling satellite, music rights and through ancillary sources. Adding the total money it has earned, ‘Shivaay’ has added Rs 160.05 crore to its pocket (Rs 100.05 crore + Rs 60 crore). These numbers are definitely something that Ajay should rejoice about.

Ajay’s directorial debut ‘U, Me aur Hum’ had received mixed reviews from critics and didn’t do overwhelming box office business either. But collection of ‘Shivaay’ point that Ajay Devgn is capable of taking a movie to success on his shoulders. ‘Shivaay’ was undoubtedly Ajay’s one man show- he was the lead actor; director and co-producer of the movie.

Apart from Ajay, the movie sans any renowned faces. During the promotions of the movie too, it was Ajay’s stardom that attracted media persons to the events.

Also, the clash with Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ increased the trouble for Ajay Devgn. Ajay had booked a Diwali release well in advance, but KJo’s announcement had led to a bitter battle at the box office. The days that preceded the release had got trade experts guessing as to who win the battle, since both the movies had their share of negatives and positives.

Though, in the clash ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ became the winner with the collection Rs 112.14 crore in the domestic market, the earnings of ‘Shivaay’ have helped it save its face.
