Bharuch, Gujarat: In yet another rape case reported from the country, eight men allegedly ganraped a 26-year-old married woman three times over a period of two months.

Police said that the woman, a resident of Halod village in Bharuch district, lodged her complaint at Jhagadia police station on Monday.

She alleged that two months ago, Iqbal Tractorwala, an acquaintance of her, offered her a lift on his motorcycle when she was walking towards a nearby village. She accepted the offer. Iqbal, however, took her to a secluded place near Rajpardi village and raped her, and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anybody.

Two weeks ago, Iqbal's brother Abran and five of his friends took advantage of her silence and allegedly gangraped her outside her village.

In her complaint, she claimed that all of them threatened her to keep silent, or else they would kill her children. Six accused and one more person, Ashraf, gangraped her again near Rajpardi village about a week ago, it has been alleged.

"She told her husband and approached us today. After a preliminary investigation, we found substance in her allegations and lodged a complaint of rape and criminal intimidation against these eight men. We have begun a probe," Jhagadia police inspector B R Baria said.

It could not be confirmed if the accused have been arrested or not.
