New Delhi: Shiv Kumar Yadav, Uber cab driver accused of raping a woman executive, has revealed during interrogation that he was trying to flee to Nepal and was trying to arrange money for the same when the police caught him in Mathura on Sunday evening.

Police said Yadav would have fled had he succeeded in arrangingthe money  from his relatives and other sources who declined to help him after knowing about his crime. He tried to misguide his family and people in his village who by then had learnt about his offense through the media.

After raping the 25-year-old financial analyst in his taxi at an isolated place near Zakhira village in north Delhi, Yadav dropped her outside her home in Inderlok at around 1.15 am on Saturday.

From there, Yadav began his journey towards his native place in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and switched off his iPhone provided to him by taxi booking service Uber for tracking his location through GPS.

Shiv Kumar reached Mathura around 3 am and abandoned his Swift Dzire taxi at an isolated place in Dhauli Piau locality. From there, he went home and met his family who were taken aback at his sudden visit,” said a senior investigating officer.

When his family asked about the reason behind his sudden visit, Yadav made up a story and alleged that a woman in Delhi had filed a rape complaint against him following an spat over money. His family believed his story.

But after the news of his crime was flashed by the various media channels on Saturday in which the registration number of the cab was also shown, Yadav got worried .

“Yadav had not anticipated that the case would become so big . But after the news broke across news channels, he became worried and immediately left home, without telling his family,” said the officer
