New Delhi: Three men, including two employees of Delhi Development Authority have been arrested for duping gullible investors of Rs 3.83 crore on the pretext of allotting them DDA plots in the national capital, police said today.

According to police, Prem Shankar, the gang leader who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in a similar case for the last nine months, was arrested on Monday after court's permission while his two associates Suresh Chand, a class IV employee of DDA, and Harsh Chand, a security guard in DDA, were arrested by the Crime Branch yesterday.

Other members of the gang, identified as Naveen Kumar (41), Ajay Kumar (36), Shailender Bhatia (53), and Padam Singh (53) had already been arrested, police said.

The gang came under police scanner after the complaint of one Kanwal Sahni, resident of North Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar, who had informed police that he was assured of allotment of plot by somebody in DDA office.

“Sahni had even deposited the money in DDA office through a bank draft and he was handed over documents. However, he later found that the papers were forged. Three more persons came forward who were also cheated by the same gang,” said a police official.

Sharma, the kingpin of the gang was a pump operator in DDA. He was dismissed in 2012. To dupe people, he used to pose as an Assistant Director of DDA.

In order to take their targets in confidence, the gang used to dispatch forged documents of plots by post from DDA office, the official said.

“Shailender used to pose as Junior Engineer of DDA. He would go to the spot and give possession of the plot to the victim after measuring it. This was done in different localities of East and West Delhi,” said the official.
