New Delhi: A 35-year-old shopkeeper was critically injured by three armed men who opened fire on him when he resisted their robbery bid at his shop in north-east Delhi's Gokulpuri area last night.

The incident took place at around 10 PM last night when Santosh Kumar (35) was at his shop along with his brother and father.

“The trio were about to shut their shop when three robbers entered and held Santosh's father at gunpoint. When Santosh tried to raise an alarm, the robbers shot him.

“The first two bullets grazed past Santosh's head after which he held the hand of the shooter in an act of resistance.

But soon the robber fired another bullet which hit him”,  said the official.

The robbers fled from the spot and the victim's brother called up the police to report the incident. Police reached the spot and took Santosh to GTB Hospital.  His condition is stated to be critical with the bullet having hit his large intestine, said a police official.

Police have arrested one accused identified as Azaad (23), while two others, who have also been identified but their names not disclosed by police, are still at large.

All three of them have been booked on charges of attempt to murder and robbery, a police official said.
