44-year-old Vithal Pawar raped his teenage daughter and got her pregnant. Later, he, along with his mother, disposed of the body of the baby.
According to the police, the 17-year-old girl was admitted to hospital on February 21. There, her father told hospital staffers that the girl had been made pregnant by a lover. However, the man had been raping his daughter since she was nine.
Chaya Kamble, the investigating officer, said, the survivor has said in her complaint that her father had been raping her since she was nine years old. She got pregnant this time, and her father took her to Sassoon Hospital on February 21. But, since the family had told doctors it was an affair that got the girl pregnant, no action was taken.
“The girl then delivered a baby boy in Washim district,” added Kamble.
An NGO lodged a case with the police on victims' behalf when the girl told her ordeal to a worker at NGO.
The survivor was shifted to Chaitanya Mahila Mandal, an NGO working for the welfare of women.
Both the father and grandmother have been arrested last evening and are booked under IPC Section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The convicts will be produced in court today.
