Varanasi: Priest of famous Varanasi's Kashi Vishwanath temple, facing charges of misbehaving with women pilgrims, has been arrested.

According to temple's executive office Ajay Kumar, the priest, identified as Ganpat Jha, was taken into custody on Wednesday immediately after scrutinising the CCTV footage.

He said that the CCTV footage of September 26 clearly showed that the priest misbehaved with women devotees inside the temple premises when they arrived here to worship the Lord Shiva.

A case has been lodged against Jha, Kumar informed.

The police will further look into the CCTV footage meticulously, he said.

Meanwhile, relatives of the priest alleged that it is a planned conspiracy by the temple trust to defame him.
