New Delhi, Dec 8: A 29-year-old Nigerian national, allegedly involved in drug-trafficking, has been arrested and cocaine worth about Rs 1.2 crore in the international market was seized from him, police said.

“A team of officers of Special Operations Squad (SOS), Crime Branch under the supervision of ACP Krishan Kumar and overall supervision of Additional DCP V K Porwal has apprehended the Nigerian national involved in drug trafficking and have recovered 120 gms of fine quality cocaine,” DCP (Crime and Railways) S B S Tyagi said in a statement.

The cocaine is worth Rs 1.2 crore in the international market, the DCP said.

Police had received a tip-off that a Nigerian national, named Johnbosco, an alleged cocaine supplier currently living in Delhi, would be coming near Shankarlal Hall, Delhi University on December 5 to deliver cocaine.

Okoye Johnbosco Uchenna, 29, a resident Onitsha State, Nigeria, was apprehended by staff of the Special Operations Squad, he said.

During his interrogation, Johnbosco told the police that he had come to India in 2009 to do business in garments as he was facing financial hardships in Nigeria. He began supplying drugs after his garment business did not take off and he suffered losses, the police said.

Johnbosco got in touch with another Nigerian national Iphyne, popular among those dealing in drugs, to make some quick money and Iphyne introduced him to one Okeke Mike who lives in Mumbai and has hideouts in Delhi, police said.

Johnbosco shifted to Delhi in January and started supplying cocaine in Delhi to his clients after procuring the same from Okeke Mike, they said, adding that efforts are on to trace the source of supply and his clients.
