Krishna Prakash, ACP, Cuffe Parade police station, said the body has been sent for post mortem.
Prakash quoted Dilip Laigunde as saying that she had come to Mumbai in search of a job. 'She was unemployed and suffering from depression, says her brother', according to Prakash.
No suicide note was found inside the room. Rupali had come to Mumbai from Solapur on Sept 14. She did her MA, B. Ed and was desperately in search of a job, her relative said.
ACP Prakash said, the girl locked the door from inside and hanged herself from the ceiling fan. The door had to be broken, after repeated knocks yielded no results, he added.
Rupali's father had also commited suicide several years ago, her relatives said.
