New Delhi: A man was apprehended at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly trying to smuggle in 12 gold biscuits.

Officials said that a passenger arriving from Bahrain, identified as Muzaffarnagar-based M Hussain, was intercepted in the afternoon by a Central Industrial Security Force squad in the terminal area of IGIA following a tip-off.

“A total of 12 gold biscuits, weighing about 2.5-kg was recovered from him. He has been handed over to Customs authorities for further action,” said CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh, adding that the estimated value of the haul is about Rs 75 lakh.

CISF, which guards India's civilian airports, had last week seized over 6-kg of the yellow metal which was being smuggled into the country from abroad.
