Kathmandu: A Malaysian woman has been arrested in Nepal for allegedly carrying 11 kg of cocaine worth USD 15.9 lakh which she smuggled from Brazil via New Delhi.  Marina Binti Jamaluddin was nabbed by Narcotics Control Bureau of Nepal Police at the Tribhuvan International Airport here yesterday while she was about to leave for Rome via Doha, according to the police.

During interrogation, she said that she had brought the drug from Brazil and had landed in Nepal via New Delhi from Malaysia, the police said.

Jamaluddin had been smuggling the drug from Malaysia and New Delhi to Rome and had used the Nepali route for the first time, the police said in a statement.

The cocaine, worth 160 million Nepalese Rupee (USD 15.9 lakh) in the international market, was found concealed in five laptop bags.

She had flown to Brazil from Malaysia on March 15, and on March 28, she landed at Kathmandu from Doha.  In her statement to police, Jamaluddin said the person who handed over the consignment had suggested her to use the Nepali route.

So far investigations suggest that the woman was paid USD 1,000 while flying from Brazil and upon reaching the destination, she was to get additional USD 5,000.  Police also said the woman had been living in an apartment at Lazimpat in Kathmandu.
