New Delhi: A man who used to pose as a practitioner of black magic has been arrested for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 1.5 lakh, police said.

According to police, the accused, identified as Intzar Malik, used to place advertisements in local TV channels and leading Hindi dailies in which he claimed that he could help people with their problems through “black magic”.

Sharing the details of the arrest, police said,”A woman from Anand Vihar who was facing some domestic problems had approached Malik for help.

“He first took Rs 1.5 lakh from her to help her out. But when the woman told him that she had found no relief in her domestic problems, Malik asked her to give him all her gold ornaments for performing fresh rituals,” said DCP (East), Ajay Kumar.

The woman then handed over her gold ornaments to Malik who, however, went untraceable after that. Finally, she reported the matter to Anand Vihar police.

“Malik was arrested with Rs 1.5 lakh having been recovered from his possession. He along with his accomplices would take premises on rent in densely-populated areas and cheat people,” Kumar added.
