Nashik (Maharashtra): Balwant Pal, a security guard employed at Sonawane Arts and Science College at Satana, a tehsil town of Nashik district, on Thursday axed two persons, including a Professor to death, and injured three others in a wild spree.

Pal was employed on temporary basis and he was demanding regularisation of his employment.

On Thursday morning, he came to the college campus carrying an axe. He first attacked Prof Prafulla Thakrey, and when electronics professor Sunil Sagar came to intervene, he axed him, killing him on the spot.

Pal then proceeded towards the principal's cabin. On the way an office staff Dadaji Magare came in front of him. Pal axed him 5-6 times on his back, and when the vice-principal came, he ran and hid himself inside an ante room near the principal's cabin.

Meanwhile, college principal Dilip Shinde tried to stop him. Shinde, a retired army officer, tried to parry his attacks, but was injured in his arm.
College staff and students overpowered Pal and bashed him up before handing him over to police.

At the hospital, Rajaram Magre succumbed to injuries. Prof Prafulla Thakrey is presently battling for life, while the principal is out of danger.

Balwant Pal worked on a daily wage basis in the college from 2006, and his pay was raised to Rs 1800 in 2008 which was hiked to Rs 2800 in 2010. In 2013, under the Fourth Pay Commission recommendation, he got a salary of Rs 5600, but was kept on temporary basis.

Pal was insisting on regularisation of his employment. He even refused to sign the receipts while taking his wages recently. Police have arrested him and the matter is under investigation.
