New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday termed as "unreasonable" the plea of the condemned convicts that the December 16 gangrape victim gave incoherent dying declarations saying she was not expected to remember all details considering her traumatic physical and mental condition.

A bench of justices Reva Khetrapal and Pratibha Rani said the contention of the convicts that iron rods used to assault the victim and her male friend were not stated in the preliminary medical reports, was "wholly irrelevant".

The Delhi High Court observed today that any leniency shown in awarding sentence in cases of "horrendous" crime of extreme brutality will have "devastating effect" on justice system, while upholding the death sentence of four convicts in the December 16 gangrape and murder case.

The "horrendous" crime of December 16 gangrape and murder case earned Delhi the dubious distinction of being the "rape capital", the Delhi High Court observed while confirming the death sentence of the convicts.
