Gold worth Rs 2.2 cr recovered in Vasant Kunj

New Delhi: Six persons, together with two juveniles, were held in connection with a theft case of Rs 2.2 crore-worth gold, police said today. A Muzaffarnagar-based jeweller was on his way to Chandni Chowk with an employee in a hired taxi to exchange three gold bars weighing 8 kgs each along with other jewellery articles, said a police officer.

Their car got punctured on the way near Welcome flyover in Seelampur area of Northeast Delhi, for which they had to park their vehicle on the roadside.  After the tyre was replaced, the jeweller found the bag of gold missing. Thereafter a case was registered at Seelampur police station.  

The Special Task Force (STF) of south district which was assigned the case nabbed all the accused yesterday and recovered the stolen gold acting on the tip-off.  The accused were identified as Anil, Dayal, Sanny and Vishnu.  Remaining two are juveniles.

“Police received a tip-off that one of the accused, Sanny, along with two other minors was coming towards Vasant Kunj in a white-colour car. Then the police laid a trap and nabbed them.  “Later, police nabbed the other three accused. Police have recovered stolen gold from their possession. During investigation, it was revealed the all accused were the members of ‘Tyre Puncture Gang',” the officer said.
