The girl was killed by asphyxiating her with a pillow on the intervening night of September 11 and 12, while she was asleep.

Balwinder Singh, an ex-serviceman and a resident of Jandiala took the help of his brother Baldev Singh to kill his daughter Rupinder Kaur. Both of them have been arrested.

Sukhdev Singh alleged that Rupinder's father has carried out the threat he had given earlier as he denied to marry the two.  

He said that Rupinder was threatened by her father and the family that she would be killed if she did not end her affair.  

He claimed that this development was told to him by none other than Rupinder herself, over phone, who apprehended that she might be killed.

However, Sukhdev alerted the police before she could be cremated by her family.  

The police took the body of the girl into their custody and sent it for postmortem. The girl was then cremated on Thursday.

Both Sukhdev and Rupinder were major and wanted to marry each other but Rupinder's father did not approve of their marriage and allegedly killed the girl with the help of his brother.
