New Delhi: The wife of a convicted criminal, who is out on parole, helped police recover four pistols and more than 100 live cartridges from their house in East Delhi's Pandav Nagar area.

The incident took place in the wee hours on Friday when ASI Vijay Pal Singh, Constable Deepak and Constable (Driver) Devender were on duty in East Zone/PCR.

A call was received at 4.17 AM from Monika, wife of Anwar Thakur, that her husband had beaten her.

"The PCR Staff immediately reached the spot and found the door of the complainant bolted from outside. The door was opened and the complainant was freed. She revealed that her husband is a convict and undergoing sentence in a murder case and is now out on parole since May 5 2014," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (PCR) Rajiv Ranjan.

She further revealed that her husband was talking to someone suspiciously about some clandestine nefarious act on the occasion of Independence Day. Anwar had then beaten up his wife and ran away along with his two accomplices, he said.

The PCR staff took her into confidence and recovered three country-made pistols, one Italian-loaded pistol and several live cartridges.

"A loaded Italian pistol, three country-made pistols and 101 live cartridges of different bores were recovered from their rented accommodation in Pandav Nagar," said Ranjan.

Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) Sundari Nanda has announced a reward of Rs 10,000 to each of the PCR officials for prompt and tactful action, which has averted a potential subversive activity ahead of Independence Day celebrations, police said.

In another incident the police officials on picket duty near Akshardham Temple on National Highway-24 recovered three knives, a country-made pistol and three live rounds.

The incident took place around 3:30 am when three accused -- identified as Aarif, Naushad and Rakesh Yadav -- were travelling in an auto-rickshaw.
