Delhi ashamed: Govt sends brutally assaulted five-year-old girl to AIIMS after mass outrage

New Delhi, Apr 20: As nationwide outrage snowballed over  the brutal sexual assault of a five-year-old Delhi girl, the governent today hurriedly sent the victim from Dayanand Hospital to AIIMS for specialized treatment, and called a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs to counter rising cases of sexual assaults in the capital.




Entry of outsiders at the AIIMS emergency was curtailed today, as Aam Aadmi Party workers staged protest outside the hospital.

A team of four specialists from the department of Gyanacology, department of  paediatric surgery,  department of paediatric medicine  and department of anesthesia has been formed to oversee the victim's treatment at AIIMS.

Dr V K Paul is heading the team of doctors.

At North Block, Home Secretary R K Singh hurriendly called a meeting of senior officers of Delhi police to discuss measures to counter rising cases of sexual assault in the capital .

In the spine-chilling incident of barbaric torture and rape, a 24-year-old man from Bihar living as a tenant in Gandhinagar here is absconding, after the five-year-old girl was found from his room, tied, gagged and bleeding, with candle wax and glass shards inside her body.

The girl was missing since April 14, and a case of missing person was registered by local police, which converted it into abduction,.

On Thursday evening, people heard cries from the ground floor of a building in the same neighbourhood, broke open the door, and found the girl tied, gagged and bleeding.

She had been raped and assaulted brutally.

The girl was rushed to hospital, where she has been kept on oxygen in the ICU. Glass shards and candle wax have been found from her private parts, doctors said.

Additional DCP East Asif Mohammed Ali said, the suspect, a tenant in the locality has been identified.

The suspect's father has been picked up for questioning.

Outside Swami Dayanand Hospital, demonstrators staged a protest against the brutal assault and demanded that the police arrest the culprit immediately.
