Dacoits arrested, stolen ornaments recovered

Berhampur (Odisha): Seven members of a dacoit gang were arrested at Sorada in Odisha's Ganjam district and ornaments looted from a house recovered from them, police said today.


The gang had looted around 60 gram gold and 125 gram silver ornaments along with three mobile phones and Rs 70,000 cash from the house of Durgamadhav Mishra in Gopalpur Shasan, near Sorada at the gun point on March 9.

Besides all the looted gold and silver ornaments and three mobile phones, police also seized a pistol and some ammunition and two motorcycles from them, said inspector in-charge of Sorada police station Santosh Kumar Jena.

However, the looted cash Rs 70,000 could not be recovered as the gang members were believed to have spent the money after committing the crime.

The arrested persons are identified as Dillip Behera (29) of Gajalabadi, Padma Charan Nayak (21) of Gopalpur Shasan, Kalia Nayak (23), Jitendra Nayak (20) and Siba Nayak (21) of Baunsalundi,  Bhagirathi Nayak (22) of Bhejiput and Suman Nayak (19) of Mudulipali near Bhanjanagara.

Police also arrested two others for receiving the looted ornaments from the gang.
