New Delhi:  A senior citizen was strangled to death in central Delhi's Jama Masjid area, here yesterday. This 72- year-old man who owned a business of clothes in Chandni Chowk was murdered infront of his daughter by two men.  Among the killers, one of them was an ex-employee of the man.

The killers managed to flee with a packet containing cash worth Rs. 6 lakh.

The victim, Veer Sain Jain, was running his shop Arun Vastra Bhandar at Nai Sadak and used to frequently pay a visit to his ancestral house in Chippidwada area of Jama Masjid. According to the neighbours, Jain used to come to the shop quite often to meet his old customers and later he used to rest at his ancestral house in the afternoon.

The neighbors further told a newspaper that the house remained locked as Jain used to stay with his son, Sachin, at Nirman Vihar in east Delhi. Jain's wife had died in 2007 after which he married off his daughters and started living with his son.

As the locals said, usually Jain use to visit the house around 2.30pm but this time he called his daughter to come to the shop and serve him lunch. His daughter too is married to a businessman in Chandni Chowk.

Yesterday, when Jain's daughter Anshu visited the house around 3.30pm she found the main door open.  To her surprise, when she entered the house, two of the men were standing beside Jain's bed; one of them was holding a towel around his neck. The killer asked her to keep quiet and fled, locking the main door from outside.

After that Anshu called her brother Sachin immediately who was at the shop. Jain was declared dead when he was brought to hospital.

Anshu identified one of the killers as ‘Rajveer' as he used to work as a driver for Jain. He was fired for being incompetent around 18 months ago. CCTV footage has been recovered from the road near Jama Masjid and the police team is scanning it to identify the killers.
