Jalandhar, Punjab, Sept 2: In Jalandhar, the local traffic police has been assigned an extra duty : catch hold of lovers moving in public. An overzealous lady traffic inspector Balvinder Kaur Multani on August 30 not only caught hold of Shivali with her boyfriend in a car, but asked the local media to capture video images.

After one and half hours, Shivali jumped in front of a train near Jalandhar railway station and committed suicide.

The brazen lady traffic inspector then said: "I didn't catch the boy and girl. Their car had brushed against another car, and I was working out a compromise...In the park, we were only persuading boys and girls. I didn't ask any girl's I don't know about the suicide...Yes, I had warned several girls, not only, but many. I didn't hear any girl say, leave me alone otherwise I'll commit suicide."

Balvinder Kaur Multani has been suspended and the Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and National Commission for women are probing the incident. A candle march was taken out in Jalandhar on Saturday night demanding action against the erring police inspector.

India TV had withheld the video of Jalandhar police forcing boys to do sit-ups (uthak-baithak), but is now telecasting the same to nail the police inspector's lies.

The question arises:  who ordered traffic police inspectors to catch hold of lovers and punish them?
