Bengali doctor's wife murdered in daylight in Surat

Surat, Aug 9 : Lekha Biswas, wife of a Bengali doctor Utpal Biswas, was brutally murdered in her house in Amroli here on Wednesday morning.



 
Inspector B V Gohil of Amroli police station said, Lekha was in her kitchen, when an intruder came up behind her and stabbed her with a kitchen knife on her neck at around 9 am.
 
The victim ran for her life towards bedroom and from there towards the gate of her house, police said.
 
At the gate of her house Lekha fell down dead after bleeding profusely, Gohil said.  The assailant escaped before neighbours reached the spot.
 
Police said, at the time of murder, Lekha's husband Utpal Biswas was in his clinic and their two children had gone to school.
 
Police is questioning Dr Biswas and other neighbours to get a clue about the murderer. The Biswas family originally hails from Howrah, West Bengal.  The assailant snatched her gold chain, but no other valuables were stolen from the house, police said.
