Hyderabad: An engineering student aged 19 year was allegedly raped by an auto rickshaw driver on the outskirts of the city in Ranga Reddy district on Tuesday, police said.

“The victim, a first year BTech student, who is known to autorickshaw driver Naresh, boarded his vehicle around 10.30 am to 11 am. The accused then took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her”, Keesara police station SHO P Guruva Reddy said.

"The girl took lift in the auto as she had known the auto-driver Naresh for some time. After the incident, the girl along with other students lodged a complaint and based on it, a case of rape has been registered," the police officer further said.

A hunt has been initiated to nab the accused whereas the girl has been sent for medical examination.
