New Delhi: An Afghan national alongwith two Indians have been arrested here for allegedly smuggling in a large cache of fine quality heroin concealed in raisin boxes which was to be sold in a famous dry fruits market in Delhi.  A tip-off, officials said, led sleuths of the Delhi zone of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to a cold storage in Kundli in Haryana's Sonepat district on September 11.

After a raid, they seized 31 packets of one kilogram each of the said drug, which was cleverly concealed in boxes containing ‘black raisins', and the narcotic substance was covered with polythene and carbon paper to avoid detection.  Officials said the raisins consignment, imported from Afghanistan, was destined to be delivered in the famous ‘Khari Baoli' dry fruits market in Chandani chowk area and the high quality heroin, sourced from the same country, was being sent under cover.

“The leads led the agency to an Afghan Baz Mohammad and two Indians D Ramdhani and K Khatri who have been arrested yesterday for smuggling the contraband into the country. While the foreign national hails from Kandhar, the locals belong to Jaipur,” an NCB officer said.

NCB officials suspect the contraband entered the country through the Wagah border in Punjab and they said the estimated value of the seized drugs could be well above Rs 40 lakh in the open market.

“The agency is probing the drugs link under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” the officer said.
