Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered 265 kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab so far this year, a senior BSF officer said here Saturday.

The BSF seized around 1.3 kg heroin in the Amritsar sector Saturday. The troopers also recovered a Baretta Italian-make pistol and two Pakistani SIM cards from the area. The recovery was made near the border outpost (BOP) Kahangarh in the Amritsar sector.

The heroin recovered this year is worth nearly Rs.1,325 crore in the international market.

"Out of the total seizure, over 168 kg has been recovered in the Amritsar sector alone," Deputy Inspector General R.P.S. Jaswal said.

In 2013, the BSF had recovered over 322 kg of heroin in the state worth over Rs.1,610 crore in the international market.

Punjab is a known transit market for drugs, particularly heroin, coming from the Afghanistan-Pakistan side.

The 553-km long international border between India and Pakistan in Punjab is secured with a barbed wire fence on the Indian side.
