New Delhi, Mar 19:  Two air passengers were arrested on Monday for allegedly smuggling 115 kg narcotic drug tablets from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The passengers, identified as Anthuama (49) and Sawithanga (53), were intercepted yesterday evening by a CISF check squad when they arrived at the airport to board a flight to Guwahati.

“On enquiry, the passengers told they were in furniture business and hail from Lunglei district of Mizoram. During investigation, it came to light that they were carriers and would have got Rs one lakh on delivery of the drugs,” CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said.

The duo had come to Delhi a week back and were staying in Janakpuri area, he said.

A total of 32 packets of pseudoephedrine, a narcotic stimulant, was recovered and seized from the checked-in baggage of the passengers after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spy wing was tipped off in this regard, the officer said.

Anti-narcotics sleuths from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) were later informed late night by the force which arrested them and launched investigation, a senior narcotics official said.

The value of the seized cache is about Rs one crore in the domestic market.
