New Delhi: 'Dhoom' did not only break records at the Box office, it is in fact still inspiring burglars to break locks of shops very smartly. Inspired by John's movie 'Dhoom', three men stole 400 grams of gold, worth over Rs 12 lakh. They did so by drilling the floor of a rented room at a hotel to enter an abandoned shop and finally breaking into a jewellery showroom next door.

The incident came to light this morning when the owners of Bharat Jewellers reached their shop in Paharganj in Central Delhi, police said.

"Although the robbers managed to decamp with around 400 grams of jewellery. A big robbery was averted as they could not break the safe in the shop even with gas cutters and other equipment that they had left behind," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Alok Kumar.

According to hotel staff, three men, one of whom was an elderly man while the other two were aged around 18-19 years, had checked into the hotel rooms 117 and 118 on March 17.

"They drilled into the floor of room number 117 and got into the shop beneath, which has remained closed since past several years. They then broke into Bharat Jewellers shop.

"At the shop, they tried their best to break open the safe which contained large quantity of jewellery but failed to do so. Finally they decamped with whatever they could find," Kumar said.

Police has got CCTV footage of the hotel in which the 3 burglars are seen, Kumar said, adding, a case under burglary and other sections of IPC has been registered against them.

"The robbers will be arrested soon," Kumar said.
