Pune, Dec 21: Pune Police on Tuesday at last arrested two jewel thieves, Padam Singh and Jitendra Singh, on charge of carrying out a burglary of ornaments worth Rs 1.1 crore from Vishal Jewellers here in April last year.
The arrests took place after an investigation spanning one and a half year.
Police said, on April 2010, the burglars broke the wall of the jewellery shop and stole Rs 1,01, 35,000 worth ornaments and jewels. The burglars did not leave any clue, but a few days after the theft, one of the employees Jitendra Singh left his job. He had joined the shop six months before the theft and had done a proper recce.
Police had suspected Jitendra's involvement, but it had no proof.
Last month, Jitendra was found involved in another burglary in Chinchwad, and it was then that the police moved in.
Police found that both Jitendra and Padam Singh had opened a jewellery shop and a liquor vend with their ill-gotten money. So far, Rs 80 lakhs worth gold and silver jewellery have been recovered.
