India TV Returns To NBA; Rajat Sharma To Join The Board

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, July 17, 2009 --

Rajat Sharma’s India TV has been persuaded to return to the News Broadcasters Association (NBA). The decision was formalised after a series of discussions with NBA board members.

India TV’s return has come after fundamental issues raised by the channel against the disregard to NBA’s rules and guidelines was appreciated by the association’s directors. India TV’s contention is that to serve the cause of natural justice, in all cases past, present and future, there should strict compliance by any authority whatsoever to rules and guidelines prescribed.

India TV noted that its decision to return was sealed thanks to the sincerity of efforts led NBA President Mr G Krishnan and all other Board members.

NBA has been informed that Mr Rajat Sharma himself will be joining the Board now. Being a founder member of NBA, Mr Sharma’s company, Independent News Service (which owns India TV), has a permanent seat on the Board.

India TV’s nominee under the ‘eminent editors’ category on the NBA Authority, Managing Editor Vinod Kapri, will be returning too.

It may be recalled that after duly complying with a punishment order, India TV on April 10, 2009 had withdrawn from the NBA protesting against specific non-adherence to rules and guidelines. This termination notice stands withdrawn.
