KFC is planning to send out its chicken sandwich into space

The world is full of bizarre news and another out of the ordinary kind of news broke out yesterday about KFC sending one of its chicken sandwich into space. It seems we’ve already entered an ultra-smart generation where even the aliens would get a home delivery by KFC. But why is KFC doing so? Is it a promotional stunt? If the reports are to be believed, this is no stunt and it’s actually happening. KFC is planning to send a chicken sandwich into space.

The food-giants plans to make a space pioneer out of a chicken sandwich next week when it sends the chicken sandwich out of the atmosphere with the help of a high-altitude balloon. The promotional stunt for the Zinger sandwich comes two months after the fast food chain unveiled Rob Lowe playing Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Col. Harland Sanders in a space suit as part of an ad campaign. The ads promised to send the breaded chicken sandwich into space.

KFC is partnering with balloon maker World View on the project. The chain says the launch window opens June 21 for what it says is the longest controlled stratospheric balloon flight with a commercial payload in history. The sandwich will return to earth and bring back telemetry data.

But... But,  There’s just one problem with Colonel Sander’s mission to the final frontier. It can’t technically get anywhere near space. KFC is planning to launch a weather balloon to carry its deep fried cargo to about 80,000 feet above the sea level. That’s definitely too high for a sandwich, isn’t it? But this is not all. The height is not illegible enough to be called the ‘Space’.

Here's the problem

Though the apt definition of where Earth’s atmosphere ends and space begins is still not decided by the international community. But it is generally considered to be the Karman line that marks the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere and that’s where the outer space begins. Can a sandwich reach out to such a height? Only KFC can answer the question.
