While the entire country is submerged in the festivities of Navratri, an artisan from Guwahati is all set to shatter records with his creation. He has erected 101-feet tall idol of Goddess Durga which is purely made of bamboo. Not a single piece of metal, iron or plastic has been used during the contruction process. Art director Nuruddin Ahmed and a team of 40 artists have used 5000 bamboo poles for making this massive piece. The idol which is being created for Guwahati's Bishnupur Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee is being touted as the world's tallest bamboo sculpture and is all set to enter Guinness Book of Records.

Mr. Ahmed has been in the profession of designing Durga idols since 1975. He is often questioned for making idols of Hindu Goddess despite being a Muslim. The craftsman who is supervising this eco-friendly creation believes that an artist has no religion. He began working on his latest idol from August 1 but unfortunately it was hit by storm on September 17. The disaster completely destroyed the structure and it was a huge challenge for the team to construct it within six days. However, with the encouragement of locals they began again and have completed 70 per cent of the work.
