The deadline for linking PAN card with Aadhaar has been extended by three months to March 31, 2018, the government said today.

As per a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar by three months.

The existing deadline ended on December 31 this year.

“It has come to notice that some of the taxpayers have not yet completed the linking of PAN with Aadhaar. Therefore, to facilitate the process of linking, it has been decided to further extend the time for linking of Aadhaar with PAN till 31.03.2018,” the statement read.

Under the provisions of recently introduced section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (the Act), with effect from 01.07.2017, all taxpayers having Aadhaar Number or Enrolment Number are required to link the same with Permanent Account Number (PAN).

The government had earlier postponed the deadline till August 31, 2017 which was further extended up to December 31, 2017 In view of the difficulties faced by some of the taxpayers in the process.

The government had informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that it would extend the deadline for Aadhaar linkage to government services, PAN and bank accounts to March 31.

However, that was to be applicable only to those who did not have an Aadhaar number yet.
